Biography

Maya Kate Frueh (pronounced “free”) is a New York based Jack-of-all-trades creative. From acting, ballet, music, and sword fighting all the way to arts administration, social justice work, and ghostbusting, she is a force of pure chaotic good that inspires and uplifts every space she enters. To quote SNL's Bill Hader "this girl has everything!"

As a singer, she has graced the stages of Lincoln Center's David Geffen Hall, Wales' prestigious St. David's Hall in Cardiff, and New York's Carnegie Hall. She has tackled works from Mozart's "Requiem" to the modern creations of Ola Gjeilo and Eric Whittacre, and has worked with Composer Jason Robert Brown in a concert production of his musical "Parade" featuring Jeremy Jordan and Laura Benanti. She is also a multi-instrumentalist, and has performed as a soloist and ensemble member on cello, flute, guitar, and the bonang (a traditional Javanese Gamelan instrument). Her musical abilities have taken her far and wide, with playing cello for the Longmont Youth Symphony in her home state of Colorado, marching in a parade down Main Street Disneyland with her flute, spending two summers as lead guitarist for a summer camp, and moving to Nairobi, Kenya where she taught ukulele, voice, and piano at 3 schools in the Kibera area.

Her acting career began through her love of Shakespeare and an affinity for swords. She saw her first play "A Midsummer Night's Dream" when she was 11 years old, and immediately fell in love with the Bard; joining the Niwot Swashbucklers to bring her sword experience to a Shakespearean stage. A life-long martial artist, she holds a 3rd degree black belt in ITF taekwondo, and was nationally competitive in the NASKA circuit in 2015. Her martial arts background is what first introduced her to stage combat and stunt work, and Shakespeare has given her an avenue to keep honing her skills across a variety of weapons and styles. She regularly performs classical theatre with Quest Players in Sunnyside, Queens and is a proud member of their traveling stage combat troupe "The Ragged Foils." Her selected favorite roles: Mercutio, Helena, Macduff.

She moved to New York from Erie, Colorado in 2019, and now spends her time exploring creative avenues, working for social justice, and attempting to fulfill her lifelong dream of becoming a Cryptid. She can regularly be found running around the city dressed like a Ghostbuster, working with the New York City Ghostbusters to raise money for Trinity Place Shelter. With "Lutherans Organizing for Justice and Peace" and "Gathering at the Gate," she has attended marches, planning meetings, and public witness, meeting with lawmakers to tear down the oppressive and un-Christian regime of Christian Nationalism. To quote famous Lutheran Dietrich Bonhoeffer "Silence in the face of evil is itself evil."

She is currently based in Brooklyn, and is pursuing her BS in Arts Administration at Wagner College, where she will graduate in the fall of 2026. She also holds a certificate in acting from AMDA (2021), and a certificate in Music from Cardiff University (2018)
